PORT ALBERT .
[from our own correspondent]. The mutual Improvement society met as usual on Saturday evening, when a very interesting programme was gone through. Miss May Dudding opened the evening with a very pretty song, entitled ‘ Spring.’ Miss Hartnell followed with a reading on ‘ Ghosts ’ which led to a long discussion. The other items were, Mrs D. Beecroft, instrumental piece ; Mr C. Judd, recitation ; Mrs Peter Beecroft, essay on Novel Reading. This last item was very good. The essayist did not condemn novel reading bxxt she urged the young people especially to go in for the higher class novels. The essay led to a very interesting discussion and the only fault was that it was too short. We are very glad to hear the mill whistle again ; the last week or so has seemed vex-y dull with no xuill working. A gi-eat change of hands and wages has taken jilace since the mill started again. However, I suppose the mill owners feel the dull times as well as others and have to economise.
