FOOTBALL.
The Kopuru and Maropiu football senior teams meet on the Mangawhare ground tomorrow afternoon and a good contest is expected. Kopuru’s chosen representatives are : Holford, full; C. "White, T. Elliott, J. Smith three-quarters; H. Lowrie, Bleakley and Nelson halves; C., F., and Joe Molloy, Keegan, Boss, Legge, Flavell, and Cunningham forwards. The Aratapu and Dargaville Clubs meet at Dargaville and the following have been chosen to represent Aratapu : —- Lio. Kitching, full; W. Phelah, F. Rutland, Morrison, three-quarters; A Smith, A. Morgan, A. Hammond, halves; E. Bassett,
Bon ell a, Keane, Woollam, E. Phelan Veale, Cx. Nield and J. Elliott, forwards. Emergencies, Masefield, Moses, Paki, Pohi. The s.s. Kopuru leaves Tatarariki at 12.45 tomorrow afternoon, under charter to the Union, to convey players and friends to the football matches. She will he leaving Aratapu at a quarter past one. The Aratapu E. C. have written to Wan - garei asking to have a match arranged for them in that township. If this match can be arranged it will excite considerable interest in Waipu. The Dargaville representatives are yet very uncertain. Mr N. Moros has offered every inducement to players to attend and hopes to secure a sufficient number. Ho has offered to provide a free dinner, new jersey, and a day’s pay if desired to those who will attend and play. A meeting of the Union was held last Friday evening and a programme of Junior matches decided upon. Kopuru II and Maropiu II meet tomorrow week, and the Aratapu II and Kopuru II a fortnight later. Mr F. Matthews’ very liberal offer of a ten guinea Challenge Cup has been accejffed by the Union, and it has been decided that the same shall accompany the Banner until the latter is won and then the Cup shall remain as the Union trophy for competition. The Union has decided to provide Caps for the winning team of Second Fifteens, provided competing teams will each subscribe an entrance fee of 10s Gd. The Mangawhare ground is in splendid order. The timber for fencing is being placed on the ground; the fencing of the Aratapu ground is nearly completed. Kopuru and Aratapu (under fourteen) met in Mr Webb’s paddock on Saturday last and fought out a good game in the rain. Mr Day for Kopuru and Mr Elliott for Aratapu were the umpires, and Mr Murray was refex-ee. E. Scott and Woollam each scored tries for Aracapu, and the game ended Aratapu 4, Kopuru nil. Mr T. S. Webb has volunteered a donation of half a guinea to the Aratapu Club. Auckland Senior and Junior Cup matches for tomorrow are ;—Newton v. Ponsonby, North Shore v. City and Suburbs v. Grafton. Parnell stand out.
