CALEDONIAN SOCIETY.

ANNUAL REPORT. The annual report of the Wairarapa Caledonian Society states, inter alia:— The year under review has been fairly successful, and in comparison with the figures for the previous one, the bank overdraft stands at £ll4 Ss <Bd, with outstanding accounts £ll 8s 7d, as against an overdraft of £143 13s 4d and outstanding accounts of £2O J (5s Bd. After the usual writing down of 10 per cent, on plant, furniture and Pipe Band equipment, the balance of assets over liabilities stands at £484 3s 9d. compared with £454 15s 8d for the previous year, and your directors consider the result is very satisfactory. This year the loss sustained gu the entertainment’ and concert account amounts to £34 Is, against £44 last year, and taking into consideration that the ingleside is free to members and very little revenue is derived from nonmembers, who are admitted on payment of a fee which is not commensurate with the entertainment provided, the concession being given with a view to enlarging the membership, the result is considered satisfactory. The sports account shows a loss of £BB Ils 7d, as against one of ,£134 0s lOd for the previous year, when the unpropitious weather militated again-t a good attendance. It is usual to experience a loss on this branch of the society’s activities, as our members obtain the advantage of the sports privileges free of charge, against which the prizes are a heavy item for the society to meet.

This year the sports were hold at the Memorial Park on January Sth, a departure from New Year’s Day, on which they haVe been held for 50 years, and after the experience of the change it has been suggested to your directors that they should again revert to the old day so revered by Scots throughout the world.

Once again your directors wish to place on record their deep appreciation of the whole-hearted help extended to the society by the Chief (Mr. Robert Cameron), and it was extremely gratifying that the ingleside given by the chief was so well attended, thus proving that his genuine desire for the well-being of the society was fully appreciated by members, who one and all voted the function “the best yet.” As a- result of both inglesides, several new members wore obtained, and your directors desire that members should make every effort to attend these very enjoyable functions.

Your directors once again feel they can but inadequately express their thanks and appreciation to the ladies’ committee for the wonderful help given by them dering the year at the inglesides and children’s night.
