ST. PATRICK’S NIGHT.

ANNUAL CONCERT. A most acceptable concert programme was presented last evening at the St. •Patrick’s night entertainment. No expense was spared in tho introduction of first-class talent, together with the very best local artists available. The concert was a most enjoyable entertainment. The hall was comfortably filled, and the audience was appreciative and enthusiastic, great fervour especially being shown during the singing of Erin’s national airs.

The society was again fortunate in being favoured with the presence of Mr. Fred Bourke, of Pahiatua, whose magnificent voice seems to improve as time goes by. This delightful baritone chose judiciously from his repertoire and gave splendid renderings of Moore’s charming sngs, “Hast Sorrow Thy Young Day Shaded,” Lohr’s stirring, 44 For the Green,” and the favcurite ballads, “AIL Joy Be Thine,” 41 The Mountains of Mourne,” and 44 She Is Far From tho Land.” Mr. Bourke’s accompaniments were played artistically by Mrs. H. M. Morton. Mrs E. Leydon (Palmerston North) sang 44 Meeting of the Waters.” 44 Steer My Barque,” and 44 Believe Me If All,” while Mr. B. Venner was an immediate favourite with some of the best of his humorous selections. Miss D. Dudson (Carterton), sang, and also contributed a violin solo, while Miss Trotman (Greytown) gave a very acceptable monologue, and also sang. Exhibitions of national dancing were given by Mr. D Bothwell and a reel was danced by Misses Bissell, Collins, Mannell and Beech. A quartette of four small girls danced a pretty skipping ballet. The accompaniments were played by Mrs. W. G. Perry and Mr. J. Yardley. A report of the St. Patricks Day picnic and sports will be found on page
