DAIRY CONTROL

.WELLINGTON UNION’S STAND. a. — SUPPORT FOR BOARD. r SOME SWEEPING ASSERTIONS. PALMERSTON N., March 17. The Wellington executive of the Dairy Fanners’ Union to-day passed a resolution: “That this executive express its sympathy with the Control Board in its present position, and confidence that it will eventually he successful in obtaining good results, the executive also to write to Mr. Ccates urging the Government to assist the board in properly marketing produce.” The opinion was expressed that the present situation had been organised by London merchants in an endeavour to abolish the Control Board altogether, and that a word of encouragement to the board was not out of place. Regret also was expressed that certain members of the Control Board had turned tail on the producers. It was affirmed that the rank and file of the farming community were ardent supporters of the board and that fanners 1 individual opinions should not be overlooked. Several members considered that a great deal of trouble to-day could be traced to the appointment of a Government, representative on the board, which was alleged to be a distinct breach of faith with the producers. It was asserted that the Government appointee was a man who was entirely opposed, to th® interests of the producers.—(P.A.) THE LONDON MARKET. BIG BUYERS STILL SHY. LONDON , March 16. Fair sales of New Zealand butter are being made at about,l46s to 148 s per cwt; but the big buyers are not operating. It is believed that they are willing to purchase at 144 s per cwt. It was also decided to invite the eo-operation of all dairymen’s associations in other States to secure the objective.—(P.A.)
