SOUTH WAIRARAPA ITEMS.
(“The Age” Special). The Wairarapa South County Council and the Carterton Borough Council publish a notice regarding the issuing of motor drivers’ licenses. Hockey. At the annual meeting of the Dalefield Hockey Club the following officers were elected: President, Mr. W. S. Gallen; vice-presidents, Messrs J. A. Ord-is-h, J. Linton, W. Ticehurst, C. Sayers, F. Brazendale, W. Say well; selection committee, Messrs E. A. Heyder, K. E. Ordish, S. Gallon and the secretary; management committee, Messrs Ordish, E. A. Heyder, S. Gnllon and secretary; social committee, Messrs 8. a. IL s-niih, J. To.hl, E. A. Heyder, E. Wilson and C. Tildesky; secretary and treasurer. Mr. W. L. Bannin; delegates to Wairarapa Hockey Association, Messrs 8. Gallon, H. E. C-rdish and secretary. Club colours wore decided on as navy blue, and the subscription fixed at 5s for seniors and 2s 6d for juniors. The entry of teams was left to the management committee. The homo ground will be for championship matches. Football Club.
The annual meeting of the Oarterrton Football Club takes place this evening. During the past season the club won the senior championship and the Dewar Shield, and the third gradd championship and Cooper Shield. The club’s gymnasium fund stands at £9l 15s. The idea of building a gymnasium has been discarded in favour .of providing an electric lamp at £B4, which will enable field practice at night. The club receipts for the year were £45 3s 10d, and the expenditure £39 12s 4<L The season commences with a credit balance of £5 Ils 6d. The president’s medals were won by Messrs C. Jensea and J. Chnrchouse. Representative honours were won by the following members: Seniors, K. Fairbrother, F. 'Eurling, B. Taucher, K. Reid, I. Hart, C. Jensen, J. Churchouse. Junior, F« Anderson. The prospects for the coming season are bright. Cricket.
The senior fixture, Carterton v. United will be completed at Carrington Park, Carterton, to-morrow. At present Carterton are in a good position, but must secure a three-point win be- in the championship final.
Fire Brigade. At the annual meeting of the Greytown Volunteer Fire Brigade, the following officers were elected: Captain, W. Gates; first lieutenant, EL C. Trotman; second lieutenant, Jas. Wool; foreman, J. Workman; first branchman, A Wood; second branchman, H. Loader; third branchman, W. Gray; fourth branchman, J. Roche; first hydrantman, E. Boyd; second hydrantman, W. Nightingale; secretary, H. G. Carter; treasurer, H. C. Trotman; auditors, J. Wallis and W. M. Allen. MABTINBOROUGH. (“The Ago” Special). Evidence of the popularity of M iss Giaee Sharp, of Martin borough, who is soon to be married, was afforded at a kitchen tea given in her honour on Friday last. The hostesses responsible for the success of the gathering were Mesdamcs Spooner, Ward and Ronalds, and Misses Colman and McLeod. The supper room of the Town Hall was artistically decorated for the occasion, and afternoon tea, daintily served, was greatly enjoyed. Several competitions were arranged, the prize-winners being Mrs. A. Holmes and Miss Rita Evans. The .guest pf the day received a large number of useful gifts. Miss Sharp wore a navy suit and hat tp' match. Others present were: Mesdames A. D. McLeod, John McLeod, W. J. Martin, I>. Cameron, G. Pain, Spooner, Kershaw, Ward, Colman, Ronalds, Fountaine, Sharp, Locke, Hardie, Hood, Griffiths, Clarke, F. McAUum, Biss, I’. McLeod, C. McAUum, Grace, Willis, H. Evans, E. B. Evans, Poulter, Hardie, Holmes, Webb, Ross, McNally, R. McLaren, Mason, Beale; and Misses F. McLeod, B. McLeod, Evans, Colman, Ronthvan, Boss (2), Card, J. McLeod, A. Cameron, Beale, Want, E. Camcron, Clarke and D. McLeod. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Evans are leaving Martin borough to take up their residence in Masterton. They will be greatly missed from the social life of the district.
The bowling green was cn fete on Saturday, when a sale of work in aid ol the improvement funds was held. Competitions, games and dancing on the lawns attracted large numbers and excellent business was done at the various stalls. Those responsible should feel very gratified at the result obtained.
Tennis in Martinborough has received a new .lease of lilt owing to the club tournament which attracted largo entries. The ideal weather experienced recently has been greatly in its favour, and every evening sees the courts gay with a happy and enthusiastic throng. The third round is now being played and some interesting matches have been seen.
