BOATING FATALITY.
HOLE KNOCKED IN BOAT.
UNUSUAL ACCIDENT AT AUCKLAND.
AUCKLAND, March 16. An inquest concerning the death of Arthur Frederick Gungall was concluded by Mr. Hunt, S.M., Coroner, this morning. Deceased met his death as the result of a boating accident which occurred about 300 yards from tho reclamation at St. Mary’s Bay, on Sunday, March 13. George Thomas Chambers stated' that he and deceased were in a dinghy about Oft. long. Gungall hooked a schnapper. He landed tho fish and proceeded to kill it by striking it with a board. He missed it, and knocked a hole in the boat, which swamped. The occupants commenced swimming to the shore. The deceased collapsed and sank. Chambers dived after his companion and brought him up and held him till A. K. Butterworth came out from the shore in a dinghy. Gungall was lifted partially into the boat and was rowed ashore.
Mr. Hunt found that Gungall died from accidental drowning. He commended Cham'bbrs for his plucky action. -(P.A.)
