DUKE OF YORK AT OAMARU.
VOCIFEROUS WELCOMES. VISIT TO WAITAKI SCHOOL. OAMARU, March. 16. His Highness left the Royal train at the Waitaki Boys’ High School apd proceeded to the new Hall of Memories at the School, a magnificent structure which he officially opened. He then entered the hall and was presented by Mr. E. P. Lee, M.P., (chairman of the Board of Governors) with an address. Then the Duke unveiled a beautiful stained glass memorial window erected in memory of Waitaki boys who fell in the Great War. The party proceeded to town by ear and was welcomed by the mayor and local body members. A guard of honour was formed from tiro Territorials. There was a large concourse of people, including returned soldiers, Girl Guides, Waitaki Girls’ High School pupils and hundreds from, town and country. After the presentation of an address, the Duke and party proceeded down Thames Street between an avenue li’ned on each side by about 2000 school children, who gave a vociferous welcome. The Duke rejoined the train at the Thames Street crossing, where he was accorded rousing cheers and farewelled.—(P.A.)
