AN ADVENTUROUS VOYAGE
LAUNCH RAREHUTAI DISABLED. Messrs H. E. Hargood and J. Jenkin, who were members of the crew of four which left Auckland last Wednesday with Mt. C. C. Ross’s motor launch, Rarehutai, returned to Masterton yesterday afternoon. Owing to the launch encountering very fttormy weather after leaving Mayor Island, the journey was not completed. Mountainous seas carried away the rudder and this caused the launch to leak and rendered her helpless. The master (Captain Dowell) thought it advisable to abandon the journey, r-o the launch' was navigated up a tidal river in the vicinity of Cape Runaway, on the East Coast, where she awaits the arrival of necessary gear from Auckland to effect repairs. As the locality is very remote, it is anticipated that it will take at least two wqeks before th© launch is able to put to sea. Some idea of the isolated nature of the bay where the boat put in may bo gained from the fact that the crew waited from midday on Thursday until Sunday afternoon for a passing steamer. The Mako, en route from Auckland to Napier, sent in a surf boat for the crew who were taken aboard. Napier was reached yesterday morning.
