GRIME DEFEATS TROWERN.
FIGHT STOPPED. TO PREVENT HEAVY PUNISHMENT. y AUCKLAND, March 14. In a ten-round bout at the Town Hall for a purse of £2OO, Billy Grime, the Australian champion, 9st 11b, defeated Red Trowern (Auckland) 9st 111 b, the referee stopping the fight in the ninth round to save Trowern from heavy punishment. Grime gave a brilliant but one-sided display, and in the eighth round only the gong saved Trowern from a knock-out. Trowern showed great pluck but was no match for the Australian, who was reluctant to punish his opponent in the ninth round. He was cheered for his sportsmanship. Grime leaves for America to-morrow. Tho attendance was a record, over 4000 people being present, while many others were unable to gain admittance.
It was announced that Charlie Purdy (Auckland) would leave for England shortly to engage in further contests. -•(P.A.)
