FROZEN MEAT. Levin and Co., Ltd., have received the following cable from their London agents, dated Maroh 11 (frozen meat quotations, prices on a “delivered” basis, i.e., including storage charges, cartage, tolls, etc.): — Down lambs, 28/42, 9fd per lb; best North Island, 28/42, per lb; ordinary North Island, 28/42, 9|d; second quality lambs, 8 l-Bd. Best North Island wether sheep, 48/64, 6jd; 64/72, s|d; ordinary, 48/64, 6£d. North Island ewes, 48/64, 3 7-8 d; fil/72, 3£d. New Zealand prime ox beef, 160/220, 3jd.
As compared with last week’s quotions, second quality lamb is 3-8 d per lb lower and wethers Id per lb lower. Market dull with downward tendency. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., have received the following cablegram from their London House, dated March 11: —Lamb: 9|d per lb. (average). Mutton: Wether and maiden ewe, light, 6£d per lb; heavy, 5-Jd per lb. Ewe, light, 4 l-8d per lb; heavy, 3 ?-8d per lb. Market slow. SMITHFIELD PRICES. The New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board has received the following cable from its London office, dated March 11, advising Smithfield delivered prices at Ultat date aS*follows:— New Zealand wethers and maidens: Canterbury quality, selected brands, ti/56, 6|d; 57/64, 6jd; 65/72, sfd. Other brands, u/56, 6 5-8 d; 57/64, 6sd; 65/72, s|d. New Zealand ewes: u/64, 3 7-Bd. New Zealand lambs: Canterbury quality, u/36, 9,|d; 37/42, 9fd; 43/50, 9d; seconds, B|d. Selected brands, u/36, 94d. Other brands, first quality, u/42, 9.1-8 d; seconds, Sd. New Zealand beef: Ox fores, 3}d; hinds, 4d. Argentine chilled beef; Ox fores, 2 5;8d; hinds, 4£d. ’ Argentine frozen beef: Ox fores, 3Jd; hinds, 4d.
Frozen pork: 120/180 lbs, 74d. Lamb: Consumption satisfactory. Mutton: Market is easier owing to heavier supplies and owing to competition from cheap price beef. Beef: Nominal owing to heavy arrivals of Argentine chilled beef. Frozen pork: Quiet, affected by lower bacon prices.
