OPERA HOUSE. “Irene" is due for screening next Wednesday at the Opera House. It is a production described by the critics as the crowning effort qf Colleen Moore. In her 11 Sweet Little Alice Blue Gown," the talented star appears in a screen version of li lrene," the .famous musical comedy success, and the additional scope afforded by modern screencraft is said to have furnished an amazingly beautiful presentation. Miss Moore is still remembered for her entrancing performance in "Sally,” and some idea of the magnificence of "Irene" will be gleaned, from the fact that it is said to commence whore "Sally" began. Though the bewitching story itself forms ample entertainment, one of the high lights of "Irene" is the gorgeously coloured fashion parade that is unwound late in the picture. For this, sixty of Hollywood's most beautiful specimens of feminity were engaged, their ability to "wear" clothes being the deciding factor in their selection. Though "Irene" naturally finds Miss Moore basking in the limelight, the rest of the big cast is responsible for some telling work. One of the ,screams .of the picture is George K. Arthur, who portrays the e.ffiminate Madame Lucy. In charge of a set of mannequins, his mannerisms are said to provide a feast of hilarity. (Splendid supporting programme. Reserves at Henderson's. COSY THEATRE. "Exit Smiling," the Metrp-Goldwyn-Mayer picture to be screened again at the Cosy Theatre is a witty and subtle burlesque on the travelling dramatic companies of pre-motion picture days. The picture depicts in a laughable manner the often agonising "melodramas" of these troupes—in which lost cues, forgotten parts, falling scenery, and guns that exploded at the wrong time, are all incidental to the performance. The star of the picture is a delightful new comedienne —Beatrice Lillie, an idol of the London musical comedy stage, who is making her debut in motion pictures. In private life Miss Lillie is Lady Robert Peel, wife of a distinguished British peer. In this, her first picture, Jack Pickford is the. leading male player. Splendid supporting bill. Box plan at Henderson's.
