SATURDAY’S GAMES. CARTERTON LEAD UNITED. BIG SCORE BY HIGH SCHOOL JUNIORS. On Saturday a senior grade match was commenced at Carterton between Carterton and United, and at the end .of play the home side were 69 runs to the good. The MartinboroughFeatherston match, set down for decision at Featherston, was not played. In th£ junior grade, High School made a brilliant- showing in a match against Carterton, compiling the large total of 371 runs' for six wickets (declared). Of this total, Cormack made a double century, 216. CARTERTON v. UNITED. United journeyed to Carterton on Saturday afternoon. At the drawing of stumps Carterton had secured a lead of 69 runs on the first innings. United batted first, but lost four good wickets for 15 runs,but the later batsmbn came to light and saved a debacle, O’Dewd, Renner, Bundle, Preston and Madsen all reaching double figures. Whitburn and Newbould secured the wickets for Carterton. Carterton made a much better showing with the bat than their opponents and at the fall of the last wicket had compiled the good score of 181, Newbould 45., Whitburn 44, McKenzie 29, and Booth 23 playing good aggressive cricket for their runs. Wairarapa High School A secured a two-point win over Carterton on the first innings, the scores being 84 and 54. United 154 defeated High School B 111, on the first innings. ALFREDTON v. MASTERTON.
