RAILWAYMEN AT ODDS.
CLASH WITH SECRETARY.
AUCKLAND, Marell 13.
At a meeting of the Auckland branch of the Railway Engineers, Firemen and Cleaners’ Association today, strong objection was taken to the manner in which the General Secretary (Mr. McArley) had performed his duties in interpreting the rules of the association when the position of president was declared vacant. A resolution was passed expressing lack of confidence in him and asking that he should'tcnder his resignation. Support was given the following resolution from the Dunedin branch: “That sincere appreciation be expressed ed of the services rendered to the association by Mr. Carrol during his term as president of the Association.” The following resolutions were passed:—
“ That this branch considers that Mr. McArley and Mr. F. J. Lewin lack both the respect and confidence necessary for the positions they occupy.” “That the General Secretary be informed that the Association is a democratic institution and that no instructions will be accepted except they bo formally endorsed by the executive council. ’ ’
“That this 'branch endorse the action of the executive council in suspending Mr. McArley and ventilating measures employed by him to prevent Mr. J. J. Pennell being elected delegate for Wellington.” “That this branch pledges itself to support the executive council in any action taken to vindicate its power and authority, ’ ’ “That it is the opinion of this branch that a full meeting of the Grand Council should be held as soon as vacancies are filled to deal with the existing crisis in the organisation.”—(P;A.) -
