BASKETBALL.

WAIRARAPA ASSOCIATION ANNUAL MEETING. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. There was a large and representative attendance on Saturday at the annual meeting of the Wairarapa Basketball Association. In the absence of the president, Miss K. Campbell, Miss O. R. Sutherland took the chair. The report of the year’s activities referred w tho two additional grades which had been introduced into the annual competition, namely, secondary B grade

and senior. There were five teams in the latter group, and it was hoped that more would be formed this season. Last season had been a particularly successful one, 33 teams having taken part in the competition, and 35 in the tournament in August. _ The need for referees for senior games was stressed. Regret was expressed that Miss Campbell was unable to accept again the position of president, and a hearty vote of appreciation was passed to her for her interest and enthusiasm in the game.

The balance-sheet showed a credit on the year’s working. The election of officers resulted as follows: President, Miss V. Thompson; vice-presidents, Miss Armstrong and Miss D. Cumberworth; secretary-treas-urer, Miss Leonard; sub-secretary, Miss A. Collier; committee, Mrs. Garvituh, Misses M. Kane, M. Grant, E. Hosking, N. Scar and A. Brown. The question of affiliation with the New Zealand Basketball Association was considered, and after full discussion it was decided not io affiliate at present, but to adopt the New Zealand rules, which differ in a few details from those which have been played here hitherto. It was agreed that the competition matches should commence on April 23, directly after Easter, and that entries should be in the hands of the secretary by April 1. Votes of thanks were passed to Mr. H. Miller and to Mr. F. W. Martin for the use of rooms for meetings during the past year, and to the Press for publicity given and courtesy in the publishing of results.
