ADDINGTON MARKET.

A SLOW SALE. CHRISTCHURCH, March 9. Heavy entries were again forward at Addington market to-day, but they were scarcely so large as last week, except for fat lambs and fat sheep. It was a day of slacking prices. Store sheep: Most of the large store sheep entry were ewes from the North Island, a big proportion being two tooths. The market slipped back on the previous sale by 2s. to 3s. per head and passings were abnormally heavy. A large share of the purchasing w r as done by operat®rs from south ci Rangitata River, and but for this element it would have been a sick sale. Lambs were back by Is. 6d. a head. The continued lack of rain is causing unusual eaution on the part of buyers. Best forward lambs to 19s, fairly good rape lambs 15s. 6d. to 175., medium lambs 13s. 6d. to 155., small and inferior lambs Ils. to 135., cull lambs 9s.

to 10s. 6d., good three quarterbred, mixed sexed lambs 205., inferior helfbred ewe lambs 18s. 6d. to 215., good half bred wether lambs 17s. 6d. to 205., best North Island 2-th. ewes to 325. 3d., good North Island 2-th. ewes 265. to 28s. 6d., inferior North Island 2-th. ewes 245. to 255. (id., good 4, 6 and 8th. ewes 21s. 6d. to 235., lower conditioned 4, 6 and 8-th. crossbred ewes 16s. to 195., sound and failing, mouthed halfbred ewes 20s. to 245. 6d., 2-th. halfbred ewes 345., good forward 4, 6 and 8-th. halfbred wethers 225. sd.

Fat lambs.—A small entry of 260'0 head _a,nd good sale, values being a shade in advance of the schedule rate for export. Extra prl ne to 28s. 10d., prime 245. (><;. i.j 26e. 6d., medium 225. to 245. Id.. 20s. to 2.15. 9d.

Fat sheep.—A small entry and sound sale for all sorts of export ewes particularly. There was no quotable change in values. Extra prime wethers to 325. 7d., prime wethers 265. to 28s. 6d., medium wethers 245. to 255. 6d., light wethers 21s. 6d. to 235. 9d., extra prime ewes to 235. 4d., prime ewes 17s. to 215., medium ewes 14s. 9d. to 16s. 9d., light ewes 13s. to 14s. 6d., aged ewes 10s. 6d. to 12s. 9d.

Fat cattle.—Five hundred and fifty were yarded, one of the hardest sales of the year for all classes. Some pens of particularly well finished steers and heifers made up to 355. per lOOlbs., but the bulk of the general quality beef was from 30s. to 325. 6d., with heavy

from 265. to 285., and inferior down to 25. Extra heavy prime steers to £l5 2s. 6d., prime medium weight steers £l2 to £l4 10s., medium quality steers £9 to £ll 103., light steers £G 10s. to £8 155., extra prime heifers to £l3 17s. 6d., prime heifers £7 10s. to £9 55., medium heifers £5 ss. to £7, light heifers £4 ss. to £5, extra prime cows to £l3 12s. 6d., prime cows £6 ss. to £8 55., ordinary cows £4 15s. to £6. rough cows £3 17s. 6d. to £4 10s.

Vealers. —Runners to £6 155., good calves £5 to £5 155., medium £3 10s. to £4 17s. 6d., small and inferior 10s. to 255.

Dairy cattle.—A slacker sale. Good second to fourth calvers £8 10s. to £l2 10s., others £3 10s. to £B, good heifers £6 10s. to £to.

Store .cattle. —A line of 2-year steers made £6, and yearlings £2 13s. 6d., cows to £4 10s.

Fat pigs.—A large entry and slightly lower rates. Choppers £3 to £4 165., baconcrs £3 7s. to £4 14s. (average per lb. sd. to 63d.), porkers 455. to 565. (average per lb. 7d. to Bd.). Store pigs.—A pronounced drop in values, particularly for weaners which made 12s. to 235. Stores 235. to 405., extra large to 535., sows in pig £3 10s. to £4 2s. 6d.—(1?.A.)
