CHAMPION SHOTS.
ARMY MEETING AT TRENTHAM. YESTERDAY’S RESULTS. TRENTHAM, March 9. At the Army Rifle Championship meeting, continued to-day in warm dull weather, the cadet championship event was completed, the winner proving to be Corporal C. Collyer, of Hokitika, with an aggregate of 190. B. McGill (Dunedin) was runner-up with 186.
The territorial championship belt was won by Lance-Corporal Parker (Petcne) with the score of 201, W. J. Barton (Petonc) was runner-up with 183. Petty Officer Griffiths, of H.M.S. Renown, made the best score, 220, but is ineligible to take the bolt, though he lifts the money prize. The Territorial and Cadet championships awarded to the highest aggregate in the two stages resulted:— Champion belt of New Zealand Army Rifle Association: Gold jewel and £3, Corporal C. Thomson (Palmerston North) 208; 205., W.O. H. L. Frank (Nelson) 203; 10s., Lieutenant J. C. Hepburn (Hamilton) 198. Naval ratings from the H.M.S. Diomede and Philomel are competing with half a score from the Renown, aboard which Griffith’s performance will no doubt be popular. The Diomede and Philomel contingents’ main purpose here, however, is to win the machine gun competition to-morrow, which they feel confident can be done.
