A SOCIAL GATHERING. VISITORS ENTERTAINED. Mr. J. M. G. McKenzie (president of the Wairarapa Bowling Centre) presided at a smoke concert tendered last evening to the visiting New South Wales bowlers. There was a large attendance.
In proposing the toast of the Dominion Bowling Association, Mr. G. Hayne made reference to the great generosity of Mr. Hardley, the president of the Association, who spent a large sum in welcoming and entertaining the delegates and visiting bowlers at the recent bowling tournament in Auckland. Replying, Mr. Hardley (president of the Dominion Bowling Association) referred to the good fellowship existing in bowling circles. A hearty welcome awaited the man who carried his kit right through New Zealand. The visit of the New South Wales bowlers, said Mr. A. W. Chapman, in proposing the toast of the New South Wales bowlers, would remain a red letter day of the Wairarapa Centre. One of the objects of bowling was to cement friendship. Visits of that kind would help them to understand each other better. Mr. Chapman concluded by paying a tribute to the work of Mr J. Kerr (the green superintendent) and his assistants.
In expressing appreciation on behalf of the visitors, Mr. J. Scott paid a tribute to the services rendered by the president of the Dominion Association.
Other toasts included the Wairarapa Centre, proposed by Mr. Thompson and responded to by Mr. J. M. G. McKenzie. A vrfried musical programme was rendered by members of the Masterton Savage Club.
