MELBOURNE LEAD CANTERBURY. POOR LOCIL FIELDING. CHRISTCHURCH, March 5. When the match with the Melbourne Cricket Club had progressed two hours to'-dayi, it appeared that Canterbury had a chance to lead on the first innings, but this chance was missed by bad fielding. A factor which gave Melbourne the chance to lead was the partnership'of R. G. Johnston and B. A. Onyons, which added 184 runs, carrying the score from 133 for five wickets to 317 for six.
