ADDINGTON FAIR.

GOOD SALE FOR STORES. NORTH I ..aND SHEEP BRING PRICES. CHRISTCHURCH, March 2. Practically a record yarding of store sheep was forward at to-day’s sale, the estimate of this section alone being in the vicinity of 40,000 head. Other sections attracted about normal entries.

Store Sheep.—Practically two-thirds of the entry were from the North Island. They were of a.much better class than of late, and as farmers are now ready to stock up and the recent rain has brightenend the feed outlook, there was a much brisker sale. Good young ewes were better by up to 2/- per head than last week, 4 and 5-year sorts also being better by about a shilling. Lambs sold at about late rates. There was a good clearance of all classes. Best forward lambs to 19/2, fair rape Jambs 16/6 to 18/9, small and inferior 12/6 to 14/-, fair crossbred ewe lambs 18/9 to 1 20/6, inferior halfbred ewe lambs 21/-, best North Island 2-tooth ewes to

33/5, good North Island 2-tooth ewes 28/- to 31/6, inferior North Island 2tooth ewes 24/- to 27/-, good 4, 6 and

ditto 18/9 to 21/6, four and 5-year North Island ewes 17/6 20/6, s.m. halfbred ewes 26/6 to 30/-, f.m. halfbred ewes 16/- to 19/-, aged halfbred ewes 10/- to 15/-, good 2, 4 and 6-tooth wethers 19/6 to 22/-, small and inferior wethers 15/10.

Fat Lambs.—37so penned. A slightly firmer demand than last week, though scarcely up to the. level of tin

advanced schedule fcr the week. Extra prime lambs to 28/10, prime 24/- to 26/-, medium 21/9 to 23/9, unfinished 19/- to 21/6.

Fat Sheep.—A smaller entry and an improved sale for ewes by 1/- a head, there being practically no change for wethers. Exporters operated heavily for ewes. Extra prime wethers 28/- to 32/-, a few show sheep 35/-, prime wethers 25/6 to 27/6, medium 24/- to 25/3, light 22/- to 23/9, extra good ewes to 24/1, prime 17/- to 1 21/-, medium 14/9 to 16/9, light 13/3 to 14/6, aged 10/6 to 13/-. Fat Cattle.—An entry of 560 head, slightly less than usual. The sale was a hard one with a further easing, particularly for big cattle and indifferent quality beef, of which there was more than the usual percentage forward. Choicest beef made to 34/- per 1001 b, good prime 31/- to 32/6, heavy and medium 26/- to 30/- and rough down tn 22/6. Extra heavy prime steers to 1 £l6 7/6, prime medium weight £l2 to £l4 10/-, medium quality £9 10/- to £ll 15/-, light £6 10/- to £9, extra prime heifers to £l2, prime £7 10/- to £9 5/-, ordinary £5 10/- to £7 5/-, light £4 to £5 5/-, extra prime cows to £ll 17/6. prime £6 10/- to £8 5/-, medium £4 15/to £6 5/-, rough £3 17/6 to £4 12/6. Vcalers.—A fairly large entry, but good vealers were scarce. The market showed an all-round decline. Runners to £6 10/-, gcod calves £5 to £5 15/-. medium calves £3 10/- to £4 17/6, small and inferior calves 10/- to 25/-.

Store Cattle.—Cows and heifers formed the bulk of the entry and was a brisk demand for anything of quality. Cows made to £4 10/-,'heifers to £4 2/6, and bulls to £7.

Dairy Cattle.—A much slacker sale. Best in calf cows £9 to £l3. medium £5 10/- to £8 15/-, host heifers £8 to £l3, others £4 10/- tc £7 10/-, cows in profit to £4 10/-.

Fat Pigs.—There was a good-sized entry, which included some well-finish-ed baconors from the West Coast. The market all round was easier. Choppers £3 to £5, light baconers £3 10/- to £3 17/-, heavy baconers £4 5/- to £4 12/-(average-price per lb, sid to 6sd); light porkers 46/- to 54/-, heavy porkers 56/to’ 60/- (average price per lb, 7d to Bd. _ Store Pigs.—A good demand for stores.
