DIOCESE OF AOTEA ROA.
DEMAND FOR MAORI BISHOP. ANOTHER RESOLUTION. ROTORUA, March 2. At a meeting held yesterday at Ohinemutu under the chairmanship of the Commissary of the Diocese of Aotea Roa, the Rev. F. A. Bennett, and attended by delegates of the Maori Synod of Aotea Boa, the following resolution was passed:— “The Conference, having before it the opinions expressed by high dignataries of the Church and of authorities on Church Law reaffirms the resolution that was passed at a Conference held in Wellington on August 6, 1926. Members of the Conference, while derided in opinion as to whether the appointment of a pakeha or Maori as first Bishop of Aotea Boa would be the wisest course, nevertheless recognise that in the unanimous opinion .of the Maori people a member of the Maori race should be appointed to that high office. ’ ’
The Hon. A. T. N.gata and the Bev. F. A. Bennett were appointed to consider the financial arrangements.— (P.A.).
