EFFECT ON FIRE BRIGADES.
INCREASED ACCIDENT RISK
GISBORNE, March 1. “The executive would point out that with the ever-increasing number of motor reels being introduced into tho service and the enormous amount of motor traffic generally, accident hazards *ire naturally becoming greater. It behoves all brigades to exercise the greatest caution at all times to safeguard tho welfare of members.” This statement prefaced the report of the accident society to the Fire Brigades Association. It pointed out that there was a heavy increase in accident claims last year, with the result that the credit balance was reduced by £B7. A remit urging the increasing of accident benefits to £3 a week was defeated. It was pointed out that the alteration would be unwise in view of tho increased risks due to the advent of motor traffic.—(P.A.)
