DIAMOND RUSH.
RICH FIELD IN TRANSVAAL. EXCITEMENT AND DISPUTES. (Received Sunday, 5.5 p.m.) CAPETOWN, February 25. There were dramatic scenes in a diamond rush, to Grasfontein, in the Transvaal, said to* be the biggest rush yet known. Seventeen hundred runners, including many athletes, lined up, and the spectators probably exceeded that number. Owing to excitement, a false start was made and thousands who crossed the line before the time could not be checked by the police'. Many claims have been illegally pegged out. It is now stated that the Government, has boon requested to declare the proclamation null and issue a fresh proclamation. The ground is reputed to be the wealthiest yet discovered. —(A. and N.Z.)
