A severe earthquake was felt at Opotiki at 3.18 o’clock on Saturday morning, lasting about a minute. No damage was done beyond, in a few instances, broken crockery.—(P.A.)
A Maori named Henry Walker, 21 years of age, was charged in the local Policq Court on Saturday, before Mr. Eli Smith J.P., with having, at Wangaehu on February 25, stolen a coat and a pair of trousers, valued at £5 ; a pair of boots valued at £2, a wallet valued at £2, and £2O 14s 9d in money, the property of Frank Milne. Sergeant Duke said that as the totjil amount, involved in the charge was over £2O, the case would have to come before the Magistrate. He asked for a remand until Tuesday, when Mr. Free would be available. Accused was accordingly remanded till 10 o’clock to-morrow morning. Young ferrets for «ale. Grazing for horse wanted.
