HELPING NICARAGUA
WASHINGTON, February 23.
It is understood that a formal request has beer), made to President Diaz, of Nicaragua, for the United States to establish a protectorate over the country. The State Department officials while declining to comment, intimated that a lengthy occupation of Nicaragua was inevitable in order to assure the country's stability, whether or not a treaty was ultimately negotiated.—(A. and N.Z.).
