MANAWATU FARMERS’ VENTURE.
AUCKLAND, February 24.
Mr. G. N. Bell, a farmer from Karere, Mhnawatu, who- broke the record established by Captain H. G. Tyrwhitt Drake, the millionaire horseman who beat the reputed performance of Dick Turpins’ mare Black Bess in the ride from London to York, left Auckland on horseback at 5145 this evening in an attempt to rid'e to Palmerston North. He carries a message from the Mayor of Auckland,to the Mayor of Palmerston North. He fulfilled the conditions of setting off on a ride of three hundred miles without money or food. — (P.A.).
