LEVEL CROSSING FATALITY.

MOTOR STRUCK BY TRAIN. MAN, WIFE AND CHILD KILLED. AUCKLAND, February 24. A shocking accident occurred at Ongarue (Auckland) this evening. Mr. Mcllroy, a farmer of Taringamoutu, was driving a car containing his wife and family over a level crossing, when the car was struck by the north-bound daylight Limited. Mr. Mcllroy, his wife and a baby in arms were killed instantly and another child died, shortly afterwards. Two others of the family, and a young girl working for the family, were injured and taken to the Te Kuiti Hospital. The .girl has a fractured arm and injuries to the back, but the two children are not seriously hurt. All are suffering from shock.- The train was travelling at twenty-five miles an hour and the driver did not see the car till he was on the crossing, which is recognised as a dangerous one. The car was carried 30 feet over the cattle stops and smashed to pieces.—(P.A.).
