SLIGHT DECLINE :N PRICES.CHIU- HURCH, February 23. Heavy eu. were again the rule to-day.* Store ewes cam? from the North Island, Nelson, Marlborough, West Coast, Chatham* and tin’ South. Fat Lambs. —335(1 entered of indifferent quality and prices were easier by 1/- to 1/6 per head. Extra heavy lambs, 2(’/6 to 29/1; prime, 23/6 to 26/-; medium lambs, 21/9 to 23/3; unfinished, 20/- to 21/6. Store Sheep.—Another overflow ontry duo to a break in the* weather. There was an improved demand for forward lambs, but backward were slow of sale. The best lines of young North Island ewes old well, two-tooth Romneys making to 31/-, but four am! five-year ewes were back by 1/- to 1/6 per head. This class averaged from 17/- to 18/6. Vendors generally accepted the market, and there was a free disposal. Forward ewe lambs, 19/to 21/-; medium lambs, 17/6 to 18/6; small lambs, 13/6 tc 15/-; cull and inferior lambs, 11/- to 13/-; good halfbred wether lambs, 18/6 to 22/6; medium half-bred lambs, 16/- to 17/9; good two-tooth Romney cross ewes to 31/-; four, six and eight-tooth Romney cross ewes, 24/- to' 25/6; four and six-tooth Romney cross ewes, 25/- to 26/-; twotooth three-quarterbred ewes, 27/- to 28/6; sound and failing mouthed crossbred ewes, 17/6 to 18/6; four and sixtooth crossbred ewes, 22/6 to 27/6; low conditioned 5-year ewes, 10/- to 12/-; cull ewes, 5/- to 9/6; four and sixtooth wethers, 23/6 to 21/6. Fat Sheep.—A heavy entry and a decline in the value of ewes of .1/- to 1/6 a head. Heavy wethers showed little change. There wore some passings. Extra prime wethers, 25/6 to 33/-; prime, 25/- to 27/6; medium-, 23/3 to 24/9; light, 21/- to 23/-; extra prime ewes to 23/4;. prime, 16/- to 20/-; medium, 13/9 to 15/9: light, 12/3 to 13/6; aged, 1.1/- to 12/-. Fat Cattle.—A heavy entry of 612 head, cows comprising a big proportion. Except for a few lines of young beef, values were down by up to 20/- per head. Specially choice beef made to 66/6 per 1001 b, good prime 30/- to 34/-, heavy and medium quality 26/6 to 28/5, and rough down to 22/6.* Extra heavy prime steers to £l6 7/6, prime medium weight £l2 10/- to £l4 10/-. medium quality £lO to £l2, light £6. 10/- to £9 10/-; extra prime heifers to £l2 7/6, prime £8 to £9 15/-, ordinary £5 15/- to £7 15/-, light £4 to £5 10/-; extra forward cows £ll 17/6, prime £6 15/- to £8 10/-, light and medium-£4 to £6 10/-. Vealers.—A smaller entry and a better sale. Bunners made £7. Store Cattle.—Only cows and bulls forward. Best cows’ to £4. Dairy Cattle.—A small entry and a good sale. Best second to fourth culvers, £lO 10/- to £l4, others £6 to £10; best springing heifers, £9 10/- to £l4 15/-, others £4 to £9. Fat Pigs.—A slightly improved demand. Choppers, 55/- to £5 2s 6d; baconcrs £3 7/- to £4 15/- (average price per lb, s£d to 64d); porkers, 48/to 63/- (average price per lb., 71d to 84d). Store Pigs.—A largo entry and a good sale. Wcaners, 12/- to* 26/-; slips, 27/- to 34/-; stores, 35/- to 42/-; extra large to 61/6.—(P.A.)
