(‘‘The Age” Special.) The Carterton Bowling Club has won the Booth Cup for the present season. On Thursday next teams from the Carterton Racing Club and the Carterton Bowling Club will play a friendly game. Tennis. Further games in the Carterton Tennis Chib’s competitions resulted:— Ladies’ Championship Doubles: Mbs. Tweed and Miss Feast beat Mrs. Candy and Miss Berrill, 6/1, (J/1, Junior Championship: Miss R. Earl beat Mis* M. Barber, 9/1; Mrs Crawley beat Miss K. Reed, 9/5; Miss Rathbone beat Mr*. Ellis, 9/7. Men’s Handicap Singles: D. L. Taverner (owe 10) boat G. Gray (18) 70/61; J. Steel (owe 2) beat G. Brown (25), 70/68. Motor Collision. A motor collision occurred at South Carterton yesterday afternoon. Near the Dalefield .Road corner, a half-ton truck, driven by Mr. J. B. Brickell, of Carterton, was approaching from the south, when it collided with a motor car coming from the opposite direction, and driven by Mr. D. J. Duncan, and containing Airs. Duncan and Mrs. and Miss Lyford. The truck suffered a brdken front wheel, as well as minor damage, while the car had a back wheel wrecked and mudguards damaged. Fortunately no one was hurt. S.M. Court.

The monthly sitting of the Carterton Magistrate’s Court was held yesterday before Mr. A. M. Mowlem, S.M. Judgment by default was given in the following civil claims:—W. Corlett v. F. Corlett, £S, costs £1 10s 6d: G. Hugban Ltd. v. T. McNamara. £4l 8s lOd, costs £4 Is 6d. G. Hayward proceeded against Jack Richards for arrears of maintenance amounting to £l2. Defendant pleaded inability to pay, and the case was adjourned until the next sitting of the Court, to give defendant an opportunity to make- an effort to pay. A. ~W. Witt for being on licensed premises while prohibited, and for being intoxicated was convicted and fined £1 and 8s costs on each information. A prohibition order was granted against an applicant on his own request.
