BY NO MEANS A JOY RIDE. LABOUS PROTEST DROPPED. B VOTE CARRIED IN HOUSE OF COMMONS. LONDON, February 18. Tn the House of Commons. Dr. Shiels (Lab.) said that he believed the tour of the Duke and Duchess of York involved a considerable amount of personal inconvenience to the Duke and Duchess. It was by no means a “joy ride. When a division was called for, Mr. G. Buchanan (Lah.) was the only disentient, but he did not persist and the vote was carried without a division. —(A. and N.Z.). (The vote followed upon a debate in which some Labour members criticised the expenditure upon the Royal tout. Mr. R. R, Wilson (Con.) resented the criticism of Their Royal Highnesses, who were undertaking the duty of ambassadors of the Empire, and earning the gratitude, esteem, and affection of every decent-minded man and woman in Britain).
