AUCKLAND WINS CORNWELL CUP.
GADFLY DISQUALIFIED.
BUT AGAIN FIRST OVER THE LINE.
CHRISTCHURCH, February 17.
Auckland won the Cornwell Cup this afternoon, the Lyttelton crew being second and Christchurch third. In the seventh race of the series Gadfly, sailed. by Lyttelton, again crossed the line first with a lead of nearly four minutes, but the crow were disqualified for fouling. At the conclusion of this race Gadfly, was disqualified from further competition, the reason being that it was considered that tho Gadfly was lighter than the standard. The result cf the seventh race was: Christchurch 1, Otago 2, Southland 3, Auckland 4, Wellington 5. In the eighth race tho Auckland crew (McGregor and McMasters) secured their third win, taking the cup for 1927. Christchurch with two wins were next in order. The placings were; Auckland 1, Lyttelton 2, Christchurch 3, Hawke’s Bay 4. Southland, Otago and Wellington did not finish.—(P.A.).
