MARANUI A LEADING. NEW PLYMOUTH, February 17. The ■ Dominion surf ehampionship events eommeaeed to-day, when land and water work in the four-men teams event was completed. Eight teams competed. In laud work the platings were as follows: Canterbury, 61j points, 1; Maranui A, 604, 2; Lyall Bay B, 594, 3; Maranui B, 56J, 4; Lyall Bay C, 56J, 5; Lyall Bay A 55}, 6; Taranaki A, 54, 7; Taranaki B, 49}, 8.

In the water work the positions were: Maranui A, 60}; Maranui B, 57J; Lyall Bay B, 57; Canterbury, 55}; Taranaki A, 55}; Lyall Bay A.’ 54}; Lyall Bay C, 52J; Taranaki B, 51. At the end of the day, Maranui A was leading with 121 points, Canterbury and Lyall Bay B having each 1161; Maranui B, 114 J; Lyall Bay A, 109}; Taranaki A, 109}; Lyall Bay C, 109 and Taranaki B 100}. —(P.A.)
