SOUTH WAIRARAPA ITEMS. (“The Age" Special.) Following is the Wairarapa team for the tug-o’-war competition with the Masterton Association to-morrow (People’s Day) at the Masterton Show: G. E. On Saturday at Martinborough the Carterton A team met the local club, when after some interesting games, Carterton were winners by 20 games to 4. School Picnic. Yesterday the annual school picnic •f tho Greytown State School was held at Petone, where the day was spent on the beach. Some 450 children and adults made the journey, being rewarded with an enjoyable day's outing. Bowling.
In tho Carterton Bowling Club's fours competition, Raine, Nunn, Hansen and Sorensen (s) defeated Thomas, Eagle, Barber, Hall (s) by 25 points to 21. The result leaves Sorensen’s and Dyke's rinks to play in the final for the championship.
Temperature. The shade temperature in Carterton on Sunday was 89 degrees. Greytown 93, and Hinakura 91. Yesterday’s shade temperature in Carterton at noon was 83 degrees. Swimming Sports. Miss Card has donated two medals for the winners of the championships at tho forthcoming Feath-.cston School swimming sports.
MAURICEVILLE. • . d (“The Age" Special.) A service was held at the Mangamahoe Anglican Church on Sunday conducted by Rev. Watson, of Eketahuna. On February 29 a meeting of a comluittee of the Gala Day Club will be held in the Mauriceville H’all for the purpose of organising a Mauriceville District Sports Club. Miss E. Jones has been appointed assistant teacher at the local school. The temperature reached 91, y 4 and 92 respectively on three days of last wqek. The Ihuraua School picnic was held under most favourable conditions on Friday in a grove of shelter bush on Mr. A. J. Rutherford's property at Alfredton. The children and parents were motored through by the committee and friends. A nice stream nearby was well patronised by bathers, and running, jumping and sports of all kind were indulged in. The serving of tea and distribution of prizes to all the children ended an enjoyable day's outing. A practice match was fired on the rifle range on Saturday. The conditions were good. A steady southerly wind and a glaring light at first were the only factors to be contended with. The following scores were registered:—
