SHOOTING IN SCHOOLS.
AN IMPEBIAL COMPETITION. HIGH STANDABDS SET. Sunday, 5.5 p.m.). LONDON, February 12. Results of the Empire shooting in the Imperial Shields Competition, 1926, show that nearly twenty-eight thousand boys competed for the King’s trophy, which was won by South Africa with an average of 79 points out of a possible hundred. Canada was sceond with \7B, Australia third with 71, Britain fourth with 70.6, and New Zealand fifth w’ith 70.3. Canada won 92 silver and bronze medals for individual high scores of nine-ty seven and over, Australia 39, South Africa 22, Britain 12, India 6, and New Zealand 3. The senior Imperial Challenge Shield, for the best senior school in the Empire was won by the Australian Naval Reserve at Edgecliff, New South Wales, with an average of 96.4. Earl Jellicoe’s sword, for the best small senior school in the Empire, was won by the Australian Naval Reserve at Fremantle.
Tho Junior Imperial Challenge Shield for the best junior school in the Empire, was won by the Lawrence Military School for Cadets, at Sanawar, India.
The King sent a letter to the National Rifle Association expressing much satisfaction with the result of the competition for His Majesty’s trophy. He considers that the excellent scores from all parts of the Empire reflect the greatest credit on the boys and their instructors.—(A. ond N.Z.).
