SABRE RATTLING.
WAR SPIRIT IN GERMANY. GREETINGS TO EX-KAISER. BERLIN, February 9. The fiftieth anniversary of the exKaiser’s joining the army was celebrated by an immense gathering of officers of the army and navy in full uniform and decorations. Field-Mar-shal Von Mackensen lauded what the ex-Kaiser did, as supreme warload to bring perfection to the army and navy. The result of the Kaiser’s work was that the German Army was the best any nation ever produced. It defied the world for four years so that not a .i ngle enemy soldier was able to set foot on German territory. That was a iglorious achievement never to be erased from the pages of German history. “It is our task,” lie said, “to revive that spirit to enable Germany to take her old place in the world.” The gathering then stood and sang “Heil Dir, Sicgrerkranz.” A report of the proceedings was telegraphed to the ex-Kaiser. Marshal Von Mackensen then entrained for Doorn personally to convey the greet-' ings of the army and naw.—(A. and N.Z.)
