BAND FINANCE.
PUBLICITY DIRECTOR’S CLAIM. CHRISTCHURCH, February 10. Herbert Gladstone Hill, director of publicity to the Commonwealth Silver Band. obtained judgment to-day against the , musical director of the band, Albert Hendy Baile. The amount claimed was £l4B, made up of salary unpaid at £lO per week, £47 2s; expenses, £46 12s; three months’ salary in lieu of notice, £l3O, less £75 14s paid into Court. In evidence, facts were given revealing the financial difficulties of the band on its tour of Africa, England and America. Actually the Canadian Pacific Railway helped the band to leave Canada, advancing 5000 dollars. It was furthes stated that the bandsmen were £7OO or £BOO in arrears >v.ith their wages.
The Magistrate found that Mr. Hill was entitled to reasonable notice of a month, and judgment on that count would be for £4O. On the wages claim, judgment would be for £l7 2s, the tolal amount of the judgment being £57 2s less an amount paid into Court.— (P.A.).
