MONTHLY MEETING. < FACILITIES AT THE OPERA HOUSE. ‘ COMMITTEE TO REPORT. The monthly meeting of the Masterton Trust Lands Trust was held last evening, Mr. R. Krahagen (chairman) presiding. There were present: Messrs T. Wagg, W. H. Jackson, D. Douglas, J. M. Coradine, J. L. Hughes and E. G. Eton. The treasurer reported credit balances as follows: No 1 account, £l5O 5s sd; No. 2 arccount, £l6O 17s 4d. Rentals received during the month totalled V£4TO 3b lid. Four recommendations were rtoeived for assistance towards the purchase of trecotfdary school books. The grants weje authorised. A letter was received from the Masterson Chamber of Commerce regarding the dressing room accommodation at the Opera House. The ehairman explained that he had inspected the Opera House in company with the secretary and the sanitary inspector. From the solitary point of view there was nothing that cotMd be taken exception to. He suggested that new washing basins should be installed, the dressing-room papered, and the downstairs portion painted, and thought that the building committee should inspect the building and draw up a report. He understood ikat the lessees would meet the trust in the matter. Mr. W. H. Jackson moved that the matter be referred to the building committee and for it to confer with the Picture Company as to paying their share of the cost of improvements. Mr. J. M. Coradine stated that the Opera House was thirty years old. A great change had taken place in the construction of theatres. If £2OO were spent on the building it would not bring another company to Masterton. To modernise the building was beyond the means of the trust. Mr. Jackson’s motion was agreed to unanimously. The recommendations of the education committee for a matriculation grant of £25 and that the committee had no recommendation to make regarding the allocation of a grant for creating scholarships at the next competions of the Masterton Competitions gaiety were adopted. A special grant of £l5 was made to an applicant, who is to attend a university.
