MENDING A FLOOR.
A LONG-DATED DISPUTE. HOTEL DIRECTORS AND POWER BOARD. A good deal of time was spent by the Wairarapa Power Board yesterday iu discussing a claim by the directors of the Masterton Hotel Midland for a sum of £l7 15s 6d—the cost of repairing a floor alleged to have been damaged by the board’s employees in making an electrical installation. The directors wished the board to reduce its account by this amount. Messrs. D. Ogilvy and G. W. Sellar interviewed the board Ta the matter as a deputation representing the Hotel Midland directors. The deputationists stated that repeated complaints were made to the board by telephone about the state of the floor before the directors had repairs carriel out an 1 invited the board to meet the co»t of the work. On behalf of rhe board it was stated that there was no record of the reported complaints. In the course of discussion, it appear d that the trical work in question was done in 2114 ,and that the floor was not re t .ajred for a year o'- more afterwards. Theie was a long delay, also, before the board rendered its account for clcctiical work. The secretarymanager stated that the transaction took place before his time. The board continued its discussion after the deputation had withdrawn and eventually adopted a motion by Mr. T. V. Moore that the deputation be notified that the board could not see its way to forego its claim. A motion by Mr. D. McLachlan that the board agree »to forego one-half of its claim lapsed for wanX of a seconder.
