PAHIATUA RAM FAIR.
PAHIATUA, February 7. At the ram fair to-day there was a good yarding and excellent attendance. The top-price for Southdowns was 10} guineas. Stud Romneys sold up to 15 guineas, flock Romneys up to 7} guineas, and Southdowns at' 7,8, and 9 guineas. Tho bulk of the Romney yarding sold at 4 and 5 guineas.— (P.A.).
The Wairarapa Farmers’ Co-opera-tive Association Ltd., (Stock Department) report having held their Pahiatua local breeders’ second annual ram fair yesterday, when they yarded 139 Romneys and 87 Southdowns. All Southdowns met with a good market, practically all of the yarding being sold and any Romneys showing qualities were keenly competed for. Mr. A. Hoggard topped the market at 15 guineas for. one particularly good 1-shear Romney. Mr. J. E. Hewitt was next at 12 guineas for one three-shear Romney. In Southdowns Mr. D. O’Brien again topped the market at 10} guineas. The following is a list of sales effected by us: On account of A. Hoggard, 1 and £-shear Romneys, 1 at 15 gns, 2 at 10 gns, 1 at 7} gns, 1 at 74 gns, 2 at 6 gns, 1 at 54 gns, 1 at 5 gns, 1 at 44 gns, 1 at 4} gns; on account of J. E. Hewitt, 1 3-shear Romney 12 gns, 1 do at 5 gns; on account F. W. Blatchford, one 1-shear Romney 54 gns, 1 do 5} gns, 1 do 5 gns, 1 do 41 gns; on account W. Mitchell, five 1-shear Romney 5-J gns, 1 do 5} gns, 1 do 5 gns, two 3shear Romney 34 gns, 2 do 3 gne; on account A. D. Eglinton, one 2-shear Romney 4} gns, 7 do 4 gns, 3 do 3 gns; 071,account D. O’Brien, one 1-shear S.D. 10} gns, 7 do 10 gns, 3 do 9 gns; on account J. Mitchell, four 1shear S.D. 9 gns, 4 do 7 gns; on account J. P. Petersen, one 1-shear S.D. 94 gns, 2 do 84 gns, 5 do 8 gns, 1 do *7} gns, 1 do 7} gns; on account Estate F. C. Turner, twelve 1-shear S.D. 8 gns; on account M. Alpass, two 1-shear S.D., 6 gns; on account McFarlane Bros., one 1-shear S.D., 6 gns, 1 do 5} gns, 12
do 5 gns, 3 do 44 gns, 7 do 4 gns. WOODVILLE SALE. Wright, Stephenson & Co., Ltd., report:—We. offered 1800 sheep and a full yarding of cattle to a good attendance at Woodville yesterday. Lambs and wethers were keenly sought after and made good prices, but ewes met with a dull sale and were hard to quit. Cattle sold at prices on a par with late sales. Following are our prices:—Two-tooth ewes-23/3, 6-tooth ewes 19/- to 25/-'; 5-yoar ewes 14/- to 16/-, forward ewes 14/-, b.f. lambs (good) 16/- to 18/4, b.f. lambs (small? 10/4 to 12/9, w.f. lambs 13/6 to 16/7, ewe lambs 16/- td 18/-. Cattle.—Fat heifers £5 to £6; forward cows £4 10/to £5 5/-, store cows £2 to £2 5/-, bulls £2 to £. Pigs.—Slips, 14/6 tol 17/-.
