RAILWAY DAMAGED.

BRISBANE February 7.

Such extensive damage was caused to the Etheridge railway- extending from Almaden in the Cairns district to Forsayth, a distance of 142 miles, by the recent floods, that tke Minister of Railways is considering the advisability of permanently closing the line. Inhabitants of the district are in an alarming condition owing to the shortage of food supplies, which the Railway Department is now sending by road. —(P.A.) MINE OUT OF ACTION. BRISBANE, February 7. As the result of the recent heavy rains the Bellfield Coal Mine was flooded. Efforts td drain the mine have been unsuccessful, and the mine will probably not reopen.—(P.A.)
