CANTERBURY BEAT OTAGO. 260 RUNS TO SPARE. DUNEDIN, February 7. The Plunket Shield match between, Otago and Canterbury was concluded at Carisbrook to-day, Canterbury winning by 260 runs. The weather was fine and the wicket, owing to rain during the week-end, helped the bowlers all day. Canterbury’s position was already strong when their second innings was resumed. The not out batsmen went quickly, but Evans and Cunningham, in the last wicket stand, added 62, taking the total to 379 and leaving Otago 41.8 to win.
Otago made a bad start in their second innings, Blamires and Knight, who opened, going out early, and then Blunt played a ball in to his wicket before he had scored. McMillan was the only batsman to make a stand, knocking up' 45 in good style. When he went out the innings became little more than, a procession and it closed for 157 runs. Otago’s downfall was brought about by Read and Merritt, who took five for 63, and three for 20 respectively. Following are the scores:—
