PONGAROA SALE.
The W.F.C.A. (Stock Department) report on the Pongaroa sale held yesterday as follows: A fair entry of sheep came forward including some good lines of ewes on account of Messrs Franklin Bros., which made very satisfactory prices under the hammer. Other lines of sheep on account of various vendors made good values. We report: On account Messrs Franklin Bros., 2-th ewes, 22/4; 4 and 6-th , ewes, 23/9; 4-yr ewes, 22/; 5-yr. ewes, | IS/. On account of other vendors, medium 2-th ewes, 17/6; 4-yr. ewes, 17/6; m.a. do., 15/; b.f. lambs, 16/1; medium w.f. shorn lambs, 8/7 to 11/; 2 and 3-shear Romney rams, 2 to 21 gns.
CARTERTON SALE. Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd, report: We held our weekly sale at Carterton yesterday, when we offered a medium yarding to the usual attendance. Cattle and pigs sold at prices on a par with late sales, and we made a total clearance at the following prices: Fat cows, £4 10/ to £5; springing heifers, £5 1/; forward heifers. £3 to £3 5/, bulls, £4 to £5; weancr pigs, 21/ to 23/. The New Zealand Farmers’ Co-op-erative Distributing Co., Ltd., report: We held our usual weekly sale at Carterton yesterday, when we submitted a fair entry of sheep to a good attendance. We quote: 95 medium w.f. woolly lambs, 12/8; 76 medium wether lambs, 12/8; 31 cull lambs, 8/10. The Wairarapa Farmers’ Co-opera-tive Association (Stock Department) report that a small yarding came forward. Cattle met with firm competition throughout. Wo quote as follows: 2-th wethers, 19/4; light fat cows, to medium £3 16/ to £4 15/; springingheif ers, £4 11/; 18-mos. empty heifers, 38/; cows and calves, £3 4/; springing dairy heifer, £5 17/6; bulls, £3 2/ to £4 6/; weaners, 18/ to 22/; porkers, 34/; slips, 21/; sows, £3. JOHNSONVILLE SALE. Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., report on their Johnsonville sale, as follows: A good quality yarding of sheep and cattle came forward, lambs also were good. There was a fair attendance of butchers, but bidding was slack, and most lots sold well within their values. Quotations: Bullocks, £lO to £l4 10/; vealers, £1 10/ tn £2 11/; wethers, 18/, 21/9, 24/3 to 24/10; ewes, 13/6, 14/6, 15/ to 18/3; lambs, 18/, 19/, 20/, 31/3, 22/3 to 25/7. HIDE AND SKIN SALE. WELLINGTON, February 4. Messrs Murray Roberts and Co. report: Wo offered a small catalogue of sheepskins, hides, and tallow to an average attendance of buyers. Bidding was keen at last sale’s level. Good woolled salteds were slightly better. Hides and calf-skins sold freely at par with recent values. Tallow was firm. Rango of prises. Sheepskins.—Halfbred, to 1/; crossbred, 5Jd; short wools, 6.}d to 9Jd; lambs, 7-Jd to IOJd. Pelts, 5d to SJd. Salteds, 8/4 to 12/. Pelts, 1/ to 4/4; lambs, 1/ to 4/4. Hides. —Ox heavy, BJd to 10 l-8d; medium, 7sd to 8 5-8 d; light, 7 1-Sd to 7 3-8 d; cow, heavy, 7d to 7}d; medium, 7d to 7Jd; light, 6 5-8 d to 7}d; yearlings, 6 5-8 d to 8 5-8 d; calf, 71(1 to 12Jd.
Tallow.—Casks, 15/ to 30/. Tins, 20/ to 26/6.
FEILDING RAM FAIR.
DRAGGING SALE. FEILDING, February 4. The ram fair was continued to-day. The.best price for a stud Bomney was 65 guineas, sold on .behalf of J. A. Mitchell, Longburn. The purchasers were Voss Bros., Longburn. The sale again dragged. Stud Southdowns, by wellknown breeders, sold well, but others were not wanted. The best price for a stud Southdown was 55 gns., the vendor being C. E. Vile (Bulls) and the purchaser, F. J. Ellis (Bulls). Flock Southdowns sold up to 15 guineas. One Australian buyer took nearly 400 flock Romneys, mostly cheaper lots. —(TA).
