TIMARU WOOL SALES. DUNEDIN PRICES MAINTAINED. THE OFFICIAL RANGE. TIMARU, February 4. The second wool sales of the season were held here to-day before* a full bench of buyers, representatives of all the wool consuming centres of the world. A total catalogue of 17,177 bales was offered and nearly all was sold at highly satisfactory prices. The sale was fully equal to the Dunedin sales of this week, when peak prices of the season were reached. Merino wool was even firmer than at Dunedin. There was strong activity by Continental buyers. Dominion buyers secured a good proportion of the fine wools. The demand for best pieces, specially necks, was very strong and a pronounced feature of the sale. The catalogue included most of the up-country clips, although owing to frequent interruptions by rain, shearing on one or two stations is not yet completed. Generally speaking, the wool came forward in very attractive condition, buyers stating that the merino is the best they have seen this season. Following is the official range of prices:— Merino.—Super, 23jd; average, 20id to 21d; inferior, ISJd. Fine Half bred.—Super, 20$d; average, 19|d; inferior, 15d to 17d.
