FAST CYCLING.
T. OAKLEY’S PERFORMANCE. APPLICATION FOR RECORD. Competing at the Wellington Provincial athletic championships in Wellington on Saturday, T. Oakley, the Masterton champion cyclist, established the fast time of 7mins. 43 l-ssecs. for the first heat of the three miles cycle championship. When leading by fifteen yards a furlong from home in the final, he fell and was consequently unplaced. The New Zealand grass track standard for this distance is eight minutes, and as it has never been bettered by amateur riders, Oakley's time is being applied for as a New Zealand record.
