Constable T'scher, of Gisborne, has been appointed to the charge of the Pongaroa police station. Mr. Crief Smith, of Moumahaki State Farm, has been appointed to the Fields Department, Wellington. Mr. E. Ittchards, ox the . W.F.C.A., Masterton, is leaving to-day by the Manuka on -a visit to Sydney.
A Sydney "cablegram announces the death of the Rev. Father Tighe, who had frequently visited New Zealand. Mr J. A. Bevan, of the Masterton staff of the N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., has been transferred to Hawera. The death occurred at Wellington recently of Mr John Williamson, an old identity of Masterton, who was employed for some time on Brancepeth station. He hfcd been ailing for some timo prior to his death." Mr Norman S. Tankerslj>y, who graduated from the Masterton District High School, and has a bursary at the Canterbury Agricultural College, wa9 recently appointed editor of tho "College Magazine." The death occurred on Tuesday of Mr. W. A. Harvey, of the firm of Jagger and Harvey, ship chandlers, Auckland, at tho age of 74. Mr. Harvey arrived in the sailing ship Hydaspe in the year 1872, and was later in the Queen Ecc and other "old timers.''

Ward, of'the Department of Agriculture, addressed largely attended meetings of members of the Farmers' Union at Grcyto'wn and Featheraton tins 'week, anA m both instances was accorded lienrty votes of thanks for his interesting addresses. Mr. Ward dealt with the improvement of pastures on tho lines of his addresses in other centres. Mr. D. Hebenton, the Wairarapa secretary of the Farmers' Union, was also present at both meetings.
