CASTLEPOINT COUNTY COUNCIL
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Castlepoint County Council was held in the County Office, Tinui, on Saturday, 27th March. Present:—Councillors G. fl. Innes (chairman) A. G. Pilmer, W. G. Groves, C. N. Stillborn, S. and E. H. Schofield, and H. C. Belliss. The Engineer of the Public Works Department notified that specifications drawn up by the County Clerk re the Spring Hill road were satisfactory, and stated that the work could be proceeded with. The District Engineer wrote approving of the specifications for the Castlepoint road. The Labour Department forwarded a circular, stating that Thursdays had been gazetted as the statutory halfholiday. The Master tea Co»aty Clerk sent a
requisition for £4l 18s lOd re Waingawa bridge levy to date. —Passed for payment. The Waipa County Clerk forwarded copy of resolution passed by his Council re shortage of workers. —The Council resolved that, owing to want of house accommodation, they do not deem it advisable at present to support the resolution. .The Bank of New Zealand forwarded cancelled debenture and coupons, totalling £322 10s, re the road machinery loan. Mr Nathan, late Government Engineer, wrote, stating that he had retired from the Public Service, and thanking the Council and staff for their assistance during his term of office. —The Clerk was instructed to write Mr Nathan and. thank him for the various works he had attended to i in the district, and to wish him all [ prosperity and good health to enjoy a well-earned holiday. Mr H. A. Nevins wrote, asking that repairs be effected to the Grasßeridait# bridge and Annedale road. —The Clerl; was directed to inform Mr Nevins that the work was being attended to. Mr Langdon wrote, applying for permission to put in a ciilvert. —Permission was granted, subject to the work being done to the approval of the Overseer. Mr A. A. Cameron waited on the Council and complained of Roadman Micky Riddler throwing stuff from the water-tables against his fence. Crs. A. G. Pilmer and C. N. Stilborn were appointed to enquire prices of local-grown chaff and report at next meeting. ~ Constable Berthelsen applied for permission to cut a gum tree on the road near Flag Creek.—The Council declined to grant permission, as they were reserving timber on the road for County use. 1 0wing to the clerical work of the County having Increased lately, the Clerk's salary was raised 'by £25 per annum. . < The treasurer's report, showing that £2415 9s 4d had been collected during the month, and that the credit balance to-day was £2051 10s Id, Was read, and approved, . The Overseer's and Banger's reports were read and adopted. Wages and accounts amounting to £lO6l lis 7d were passed for payment, ,
