THE BRUCE SEAT
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) . : DtiNEDIN, Last Night. ■ The 6ruce by-election campaign was * oponed last night at Milton by Mr James Beggi thd Reform candidate. He dealt the cost of living'and ' its causes,; and said it was the first duty, of the .Government to restore the currency at the' earliest- possible date and re-establish the gold stand- . &rd; -alflo to reduce the quantity of paper currency and bring about u state 'of affairs whereby they would bd able to demand gold and meet '-their foreign exchanges in gold. He m not think until then that they ■ would be able to reduce the cost of living. It had been his, privilege as chairman of the Repatriation Board. to do something in the way of re-1 patriation, and he' must say it was to the credit of New Zealand soldiers that 75 per cent had not asked for support from anybody. The candidate , said he was standing as a supportei of the Government, as he believed Mr Maftsey's Government was the most likely party to deal with the difficult questions to be faced. Mr Begg received a vote of confidence.
