(From Our Resident Reporter.) ft | The now concrete .bridge on the iJalefield road ia nearirig completion, the approaches being the only work to finish. The Clareville Public Hall is receiving a coat of paint. Another change in the management of the Taratahi Hotel is reported to have taken place. . The fire which demolished Booth's mill on Monday night will severely . hamper building operations in Wairarapa, as it was from this mill that all the contractors drew their supplies of dressed timber. The insurances in connection with the fire atf Booth and Co.'s mill were •as follows:—On machinery and plant, »£4soj On the mill, £IOO. There was an insurance on ,tho timber, which has yet to be adjusted. The loss is estimated at between £2OOO and £3OOO. It is understood that the firm intends rebuilding the mill. About £4OO worth of galvanised iron was* received the day before the fire, and the whole of this was demolished. The Carterton paper contains the following, under the head of "A Curious Coincidence": —It is a curious and strange coincidence, and worthy of mention, that just a year ago a house just vacated by Mr. Booth and. taken .by Mr. F. H. Wise caught fire and was completely gutted. On this occasion an anonymous letter was received by Mr. W. Howard Booth, regretting that a mistake had been made, and that Mr. Wise was the sufferer. "The intimation was also conveyed that jfcL' no (mistake would be made next "time.' * Since.then nothing further has .been heard, but the fire last night, exactly.twelve months after the previ- . ous fire, is rather a remarkable coincidence, ' . ' The Tradesmen Association notifies that the Bhops - will be closed from Thursday evening till Tuesday mora* ingi The annual meeting of the Dalefield " Football Club is to be held in the Dale-. > field Hall this evening. A full attendance is requested.. A large shop facing' High Street and Belvedere Road was submitted at auction yestorday by Mr. -G. A. Fairbrother, on behalf of the Public Trustei in the Mariarty Estate. The JbJock was purchased by Mr. T. F. Wat* of Idasterton, tho present occupier, 'at £2250. Only one bid of £SOO was received for a 24ft. frontage to High Street offered at auction yesterday by Mr. G. A. Fairbrother. It was passed in, as also was a dwelling offered, on behalf of Mrs. Goodin, the highest bid for which was £325. The gas manufactured during Febru* ary was 454,300 cubic feet, as against 371,200 cubic feet for the correspond ing month last year. The .reecipts were 283 18s 9d, and-£232 respectively. The Carterton Borough Council has been granted permission to erect a dais on the railway platform on the occasion -of "the visit of the Prince of Wales, under certain reservations. jCfThe Residents of Greytown, as tfell the school children, have been in* vited by the Borough Council to par tidpate in the reception by the Prince of-Wales fit Carterton.
