GENDARMES AND THIEVES.

During a fight between four - watch- , men and some thieves who were plundering a goods truck at'Les Aubraig, near Orleans, at 'midnight on Friday, one watchman was fatally shot, another wounded in the leg. The thieves decamped in a motor car and motor lorry- along a road running parallel with the railway; linep Meanwhile, in rosponse, a phone message, an engine with 6sk left Orleans, chased the thieves, and on ovef'ta&xng the vefai* cles a running figh£,'ensued/.i <Thp engine outdistanced the vehicles, and the gendarmes got off at. .A^Uay,j where 1 they, barricaded, the' rha'd a#d awaited the . thieves' arrival. The motor car and lorry stopped befrjuffe tney reached' the ' barricade, and the thieves dismounted, arid ran.
