COMPETITIONS.

The revival of tho Masterton competitions, after a recess of several years occasioned by the war," is an event of considerable importance to the district. Apart from the educational value of these competitions, they bring to the town hundreds of visitors, and create an enthusiasm in music and elocution which is attended with the most excellent results. The. Society has no object in view other than to develop the latent talent of the community. It devotes considerable time and energy to preparing the syllabus and arranging the details of the competitions, and it has a peculiar claim upon the support and sympathy of the public. It is to be hoped that the competitions to be held in a few weeks' time will be attended with the same success as those which created so much interest and enthusiasm in the days before the war.
